Customization for healthcare
With support from Flanders and Europe, A-kwadraat is strengthening its service, innovation, and infrastructure for the healthcare sector with "Customized Care."
In 2021, with the support of Flanders and the European Union, we launched the 'Customized Care' project. This project involves various strategic actions to optimize and expand our offering to healthcare organizations. Today, we can report the first results.
How four subprojects strengthen A-kwadraat
We distinguish four sub-projects that together ensure that A-kwadraat makes a leap forward in service and infrastructure for the healthcare sector, which can benefit greatly from high-quality services and reliable partnerships.
Subproject 1: Isolator for sterile preparations
A-kwadraat collaborates with AZ Turnhout. The hospital requested to house an isolator for sterile preparations in A-kwadraat's healthcare building. In this subproject, we investigated the feasibility of such a new isolator in terms of technical conditions, quality standards, and operational impact, and we implemented it.
Subproject 2: Digitization of the healthcare warehouse
A-kwadraat's warehouse management had potential for improvement. A number of digital options could fundamentally improve the efficiency of internal warehouse processes, including a warehouse system for the healthcare warehouse. In this subproject, we implemented a suitable software system, namely Microsoft Dynamics D365, partly because of its specific validation capability (important for healthcare applications).
Subproject 3: Smart production environments for medical services
Industry 4.0 offers countless opportunities. We want to take the first steps in this area in theHealth & Care business unit, because this is where the highest standards apply in terms of regulations, precision , and control, and where mistakes can have the most serious consequences.
In this subproject, we identified the processes for which smart solutions offer added value, investigated the various solutions, and started implementing the most suitable solution. Once this implementation is complete, we will communicate more details about it.
Subproject 4: Preparations for a new healthcare building
In 2017, we opened A-kwadraat 3, a building specially designed for healthcare. We quickly saw that this investment generated additional business. The sector is evolving rapidly, and the infrastructure for highly regulated activities requires constant innovation.
In this subproject, we started the preparatory studies for a new healthcare building, including a preliminary study by an architect. The intention is to break ground at the end of 2026.
